Lecture Summary: Through the analysis of the most celebrated etruscan indigenous myths (the "infant Sage" Tages, the Nymph Vegoia),the lecture illustrates the historical background of religious traditions in Etruria and the close connections between revelation, writing and first codification of social rules in Etruria. Roman traditions concerning Eruscan priests and their practices, as well as direct archaeological evidence, will throw some light on genuine aspects of their role, knowledge and techniques.
